The new VX central vacuum systems come as both cyclonic and filtered systems, each of which has its own positive attributes as well as downsides that need to be fully considered before you can made an educated decision. Either way you will be getting a high quality central vacuum that is guaranteed to do a great job in your home, but the differences between the two are worthy of consideration in order to find the model that suits you the best.

Cyclonic Nutone vacuum systems function by sucking the dirt and dust into a swirling cyclone within the motor, with gravity separating the heavy dirt particles into the dustbin while blowing the lighter dust outside through the ventilation system, thus ensuring that it is not recycled back into the air of the room you are cleaning as with a regular vacuum. The filtered system, on the other hand, uses a HEPA certified filter to trap all of the dust and dirt particles as the air is sucked through, venting out much cleaner air than with the cyclonic system. The downside to a filtered system is that as dust particles get trapped in the screen the suction of the vacuum slowly grows less and less powerful until the filter is changed.
